Why in News?
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released detailed reports for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. This initiative promotes transparency and accessibility for all stakeholders.
Key Highlights of Lok Sabha Elections 2024
Electors/Voters:
- Total registered electors: 97.97 crore (7.43% increase from 2019).
- Votes polled: 64.64 crore (EVM + postal votes).
- Gender breakdown: Male: 32.94 crore, Female: 31.28 crore, Third Gender: 13,058.
- NOTA received 63.71 lakh votes (0.99%), slightly lower than 2019.
- Highest turnout: Dhubri (Assam) – 92.3%, Lowest: Srinagar (J&K) – 38.7%.
Polling Stations:
- Total polling stations: 10,52,664 (increase of 14,816 from 2019).
- Highest polling stations: Uttar Pradesh – 1,62,069, Lowest: Lakshadweep – 55.
- Repolls conducted in only 40 polling stations (0.0038% of total) compared to 540 in 2019.
- Bihar saw the highest increase in polling stations, adding 4,739, followed by West Bengal (1,731).
Nominations:
- Total nominations filed: 12,459 in 2024 compared to 11,692 in 2019.
- PC with highest nominations: Malkajgiri (Telangana) with 114 nominations.
- PC with lowest nominations: Dibrugarh (Assam) with 3 nominations.
Women Power:
- Female registered electors: 47.63 crore (48.62% of total), compared to 43.85 crore (48.09%) in 2019.
- States with the highest female electors: Puducherry (53.03%), followed by Kerala (51.56%).
- Dhubri (Assam) recorded the highest female voter turnout at 92.17%, followed by Tamluk (West Bengal) with 87.57%.
- Female voter turnout: 65.78%, higher than male turnout (65.55%).
- The number of female electors per 1,000 male electors increased to 946 in 2024, compared 926 in 2019.
- State with the highest number of Female Contesting candidates: Maharashtra [111] followed by Uttar Pradesh [80] and Tamil Nadu [77].
Inclusive Elections:
- Registered third-gender electors: 48,272, up 23.5% since 2019.
- State with the highest No. of registered Third Gender Elector: Tamil Nadu (8,467).
- Registered PwD electors: 90.28 lakh, Overseas electors: 1.19 lakh.
- Transgender voter turnout: 27.09%, almost double from 2019.
Results:
- Total vote share of 6 national parties: 63.35% total valid votes.
- Independent candidates: 3,921 contested, 7 were elected.
- Independent candidates secured 2.79% of the total valid votes, with 279 being female candidates.
- One uncontested PC: Surat (Gujarat).
